PostseasonThe Panthers' first postseason game came in 1931, 42 years before the IHSAA began the playoffs. Both Reitz and Bosse finished the season tied in the city standings with 2-1 records. A special series of postseason games was booked at Bosse Field to help raise money for the Great Depression. In the first game for third place in the city (both teams entered 1-2 in city standings), Memorial beat Central 9-6. In the city championship game, Bosse won 13-0 over the Panthers. Another postseason game almost occurred in 1961, when #1 Reitz challenged undefeated #2 Hammond to a game for the mythical state championship. Hammond had basketball season on their minds and the fear of Reitz in their hearts, and declined the contest, giving Reitz the undisputed state title.
