History
There exist halls of fame that honor standout football players from
Reitz Hi, among other secondary schools, such as the Indiana
Football Hall of Fame and the Evansville Sports Hall of Fame, but
there was nothing to honor Panthers gridders exclusively.
The idea for the Hall of Fame was born out of a plan to honor an
All-Time Reitz Football Team. Nominations and finalists were named,
but the project was put on hiatus, as an all-time team had several
drawbacks. There have been so many great players over the years and
someone that deserved to be on the list would be likely to be left
off; also, what about honoring future deserving Panthers? Could they
be added? Would we have to bump someone off the list?
Out of these concerns, the idea for the Reitz Football Hall of
Fame was born.
