OK, after watching last nights game I have a few comments I would like to throw out there on it and some of the other posts on this site.

1. We will get better BUT, they need time to gel. Things I saw last night reminded me of the '08 season. Played poorly against HC first game then went down to O'boro and got beat. I just hope the team realizes they cannot simply show up against anyone.

2. For those of you saying we need to play some of the bigger schools next year when we travel to Louisville you need to really stop drinking so much. Are you kidding me? We struggled against a young inexperienced HC team last night that they themselves really didn't think they had much of a chance. How do you really think we would do against one of the larger school next season. I am not trying to degrade anyone on this team or any of the future teams but, let them play schools the same size and get better and not struggle against teams they are not ready for.

3. During the game last night the line played fabulous. But, during the 3rd quarter Matt got hit a few times and comments I started hearing the stands made me laugh out loud, "Line sucks", "The need to get someone out their that can block".... PLEASE, what game were you watching. The line being put together the way they were over the last few weeks could not have played any better. Yes people, it is football and at times people will get touched and or tackled.

OK that's it. I am sure their are more comments but right now I cannot think of anything else besides the obvious. We need to get better, before next week but I am sure the coaches will see what is needed and correct it.

FYI, we didnt play Henderson in 2008. This is the second year since we have started playing thme again. It was Jeffersonville and that team had way more losses than this team. As far as personnel I mean. Its just the first game so give it time. With our talent and coaches things will come together..

But in all honesty I hope this was a wake up call to some. I always said there is only one or two Reitz teams that I've seen that I thought could play with Warren Central, last year and maybe the 96 or 2007 team.

I hope I'm wrong but I think we could be in for trouble next week at Owensboro. We need to get healthy quick. This is a different looking D without Harris, Dimmett and Balbach.

As far as the O goes, I was very pleased. Ke Andrea, Tezzy and Mo looked good running the ball.

Last night was a good win. I sat and counted 13 different kids not dressed out, 5 or 6 being starters. I think the staff and kids did a great job piecing things together. We will get better as the new kids gain experience and we start getting healthy again. Owensboro will be a great test. I think the great success we've had the last few years may have spoiled us a little bit. I'll take a win anywhere, any time.

Umm, I'd like to throw my two cents in here since the "playing larger schools" and "what have you been drinking" were obviously directed at me because I asked why we didn't get to play Louisville St. X or Ballard. I was at the game last night, and yes, at times it was ugly. However, you never expect to go into the first game of the season with 5 or 6 starters sitting on the bench, and 4 or 5 players having to play out of position. Would that game have been with in two touchdowns if all of our starters are on the field last night? I can honestly say no. You hit the nail on the head when you said we struggled with an inexperienced team, and we still beat them by 14.

As for the comment of "they themselves didn't think they had much of a chance". If they didn't believe they had much of a chance, or any chance to win, why would they have showed up. Every team believes they have a chance to win. If you don't, why put in all of the hard work, all of the time that is a necessity.

And the larger school argument can hold no weight. HC has an enrollment comparable to Fishers High School (29th largest school in the state of Indiana). So how is playing a school that has approximately 600 more students and is the 4th largest school in Kentucky playing someone our size? St. X and Ballard are both closer to our size than HC. Ballard only has 1700+ students, and St X only has 1400+ (although they are a private boys school, so by KHSAA rules, their enrollment numbers must be doubled.)

I had no idea, that the private ky schools are bumped up. With Reitz and Lowell beating Cathedral and Dwenger the last few years, I sure would hate to put the private schools in Indian up a class. We all know Mater Dei and Memorial don't need to play up a class. Those schools have the same names every year much like Reitz.

I'm not convinced Ft Wayne Luers doesn't get a few outsiders. I don't mind playing bigger schools, I just have 4 or 5 in mind that I don't think we are ready for(most of the time) and WC, Carmel and Center Grove come to mind. Like I said last year, I would have loved to played them, but not most years.

On the playing bigger schools subject.

IMO its not about playing BIGGER schools necessarily but finding better quality teams to play that will boost our exposure for the school and the players. Its doesnt matter to me if another school is considered 3A by our standards if they continuely challenge for the top spot of their respective league. Playing against the best is the only way to challenge yourself and I think our kids would be up to it, win or lose it only makes you better. I think we have a pretty good grasp on things locally and last years team could have hung with alot of national teams.

On the same note it should be our and the schools goal to bring some big time schools to the bowl either by small tournement or by a 1 and 1 home and away deal. I cant believe all these years with the most unique playing venue I've ever seen we haven't tried to capitolize on it.

Last years team was pretty special but just because Matt is the last of line for the McIntoshes doesnt mean this was the best it will ever be. I look forward to other special kids to come and playing better competition will help that. Lets not sell ourselves short by thinking we will never be able to compete with the best.

Maybe playing the bigger schools would be better for the kids so they do realize they can be beat. Going undefeated is awesome don't get me wrong, but having losses in regular season wouldn't bother me. Going undefeated in the post season is the only thing that matters. Hopefully the boys get healthy soon and we stay injury free for the rest of the year.

I like the idea of trying to schedule one bigger school down the road, but it will be hard to get any of the "major" programs to play us. I'm sure in their minds, they have nothing to gain and everything to loose buy giving us a chance. The games at Louisville the next few years will be great exposure for us. I do think the last few years have the fans spoiled a little on going unbeaten. Let's not forget it was 30 years (1977 to 2007) between our state championship games and we had some great teams during that time. I hope the fans keep in mind what a truly great accomplishment this run has been . Knock on wood, we should have a few more healthy bodies back for Owensboro. Win or loose, as we keep getting more kids healthy, we will only get better down the road. I love my undefeated state champs T-shirts, but if we do loose a game or two, as long as the next one says 2010 state champs it will be great!

Kentucky does not have a private/parochial schools play up a class rule like some states do. What they do have are single sex private schools. The schools must double their enrollment for athletic purposes to classify them (as they do have an advantage being they only have one gender pool to pull from). They would actually have double the number of students that they could pull from over their counterparts from the same size public schools. Kentucky has nine single sex high schools. They are:

Presentation (Girls)
DeSales (Boys)
Covington Catholic (Boys)
Notre Dame (Girls)
Mercy (Girls)
Sacred Heart (Girls)
Assumption (Girls)
Louisville Trinity (Boys)
St. Xavier (Boys)

I would like to play a good Lousiville team to open the season every year. I'd like to see Reitz and Central/Castle/Mater Dei vs Male or Trinity. Cathedral has a loss every year but it isn't a bad loss.

Reitz has everything you need to develop a Cathdral type program.

1, Tradition

2, Backing from fans,

3, Coaching,

4, A top 5 stadium in the country. If I were in the 8th grade and I lived in Evansville, I would want to play in the bowl so bad I wouldn't be able to stand it.

All the pieces to the puzzle are right there to be put together. Reitz will be a force in 4a even after Matt leaves. I'm very impressed with Vaugh, Nelligan, Schnarr etc..... Plus the frosh class has some great players also.
