I am not one to argue over polls but why in the world is Bishop Chatard ranked first in 3a and Cathedral is ranked first in 4a. I know for a fact both of these schools lost more to graduation then Memorial and Reitz. I still can't believe the lack of respect Reitz gets in the polls. I just don't get it. But it really doesn't matter so I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Its the same old story, same old song and dance!

I seem to remember the last time the Indy are disrespected us. We destroyed Cathedral for it. Thanks for doing it again!!!!

The bigger question should be, how did we get more than twice as many first place votes (5-2) then Cathedral, yet we are voted lower. Something just doesn't smell right. Make the coaches put out how they voted, because we got 5 first place votes, and them average 5th with the other three

seems we were the only team in the polls that had the most #1 votes that got beat out, guess we got more 3rds for the other votes. but like transplanted said use this for Tony to fire up the team come playoffs, when steam matters.
Go PANTHERS!!!!!!

There were 8 voters giving out 10 to first - down to 1 for tenth, so a max of 80 points. Reitz got 50 points by virtue of their 5 first-place votes. Given their total of 68 points that means we amassed 18 points from the other 3 voters. While possible that could've been a mixture of 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, etc from those 3 voters, my hunch is that from the other 3 voters we received two 2nds for 9 pts each and one voter left the Panthers out entirely, either by mistake (hard to believe) or spite for some reason. Yes, would be interesting to see a voter-by-voter breakdown.

I think just from reading the gridiron and the courier press Reitz has some haters. Its like since we've gone down a class we are cheating or something l o l I usually wouldn't say this, but I kinda wish we would have been in 5a last year. I think last years team could have won em all, any class. But thats just my opinion. People will always look down on Reitz for some reason. I'm not sure what Cathedral has coming back besides Kennedy and the big lineman. Their coach said in the digest book that this years team is much slower and less athletic then last years. I guess whem you've been in the title game 12 times, that counts for something!

If you go to the gridiron right now(I don't post over there) you'll read Jsaper and HH people say Reitz is to small etc... I know last year we were 5'10 196 5'10 241 6'4 364 6'2 286, 5'10 245 on O. Last year we were 6'1 198 6'0 207, and 6' 4 240 on our D line. So really last year's D line was smaller then this years. I won't lie I am concerned about the size on the O line. But when Mac runs a 4.6, Carr runs a 4.5 and Vaughn runs a 4.5 I don't care how small we are. Day for Jasper wasn't even as fast as Woodget or Fentress last year. And in all honesty a 215 pound O line isn't really that small. I wasn't impressed with Jaspers big slow kids last year anyways. Are linman were running around Mitch Mattingly all night. I'm telling you right now, we are fast and very fast. You can't compare the team speed of Jasper to Reitz. Jasper is a physical team and if you can't score 35 points in 3 quarters, your going to get beat. Jaspers lack of passing game will hurt them.

Speed kills people and our lb's and D lineman are very, very fast. I guess we fly under the radar all year again this year. A game hasn't even started and we already aren't getting any respect. You know in a way I kinda like it that way because it keeps the kids from getting a big head. As a high school football fan you have to give credit where credit is due. I'll take some crap from Cathedral fans considering they've owned 4a for the last 20 years, but I don't want to get punked by Jasper people. Give me a break. I hope we play Jasper at their place because the turf at our place will make them to fast!

I checked, and the coaches that are voting (at least the main 8) are the coaches from the following schools: Hammond Morton, Concord, Dwenger, Delta, Pendleton Heights, Cathedral, Shelbyville, and Jasper. Alternates are Plymouth and Boonville.

Considering Alt votes are not factored in, I can see some scenarios.

Dwenger's coach voted them #1. Understood.
Cathedral's coach voted them #1. Understood.
I am quite sure that we had the votes of Morton, Concord, Delta, PH, and Shelbyville.

That leaves Ahrens at Jasper. Did the beat down we put on them last year tick him off so much that he put us at 9th or worse just out of spite?

I am quite sure that Dwenger had us at either 2 or 3, so if Jasper voted us higher than 9 or 10, where did Cathedral's coach put us then? And did he do that because of the way we dismantled his "better" team last year?

Hate to say it, but I have a feeling that with these three coaches voting, if we do climb up to number one (and I would not be surprised if we win this weekend and drop in the rankings while Cathedral loses and stays #1), we will never be a unanimous #1 this year, unless we leave no doubt, and there is no way they could vote for someone else.

Indianapolis and Northern Indiana football run the polls. It has always been this way and always will. Chatard and Cathedral are Indy Powerhouse teams year after year. DChatard has been ranked and winning since the mid-60's, Cathedral goes back to the 1920's. Well, so does Reitz, just they don't know it. It will all come out in the wash, when State Championship trophies are hnaded out.

It doesn't matter. All that matters is winning your last game. The team that does that can claim #1.

Reitzfans don't get so caught up in the polls. As Coach Lewis said at rhe R-mens Stagg this year if we win our 15th game this year the rankings will clear itself up. We wernt ranked #1 last year or even in 2007 and look what happened. Rankings mean absolutly nothing except to the fans.

Scratches head. Don't we have a 8-3 record against Cathedral? Or am I mistaken on that.

I can see Cathedral giving us the respect. What I can't see is a Jasper disrespecting us (if they did like I think they did) when we had the superior team last year, and should have again this year.

True, the polls mean nothing except for some people's opinions on how they see a team, but you don't think that Coach Lewis will use that as motivation? Look those young men in the eyes and say, "They are saying that you guys are not as good as last year. The players that we lost are better than you guys that are moving in to those spots."

I honestly believe that while he says to us outwardly that the polls don't mean anything, I can guarantee that he is using it as motivation for the boys. The disrespect card is a whole lot easier to play when your not ranked #1.

I honestly thought Central would be in the top 10. I know you guys are going to spank me for this but I think Central not Jasper is the second best team in our sectional. Central is due to beat Jasper. If you look at the Jasper central scores, they are very close over the last 10 years. I've talked to Andy Owens a little and he is really high on this team. He said they are real close and we all know they have the talent to compete, the question is will they have the winning attitude along with a decent line. All they need to do is get Haywwod and Williams open because once they get behind the secondary we will have a hard time catching them.

A team that finishes the season 6-5 the season before is not going to make the top ten, even with one of the best teams in the state, until they prove it on the field for a few weeks. I will agree with you that Central is probably the second best team in our sectional. I don't think anyone will rip you for that. Your right on their line. But to get Haywood and Williams open behind the secondary, the quarterback has to have time. Not so sure that this will happen when they play a few teams this year.
