QUOTE
But Barthel's first "real" playing time didn't come until a Class 4A semistate game at Evansville Reitz, which Cathedral lost. With his team down by two touchdowns and an estimated crowd of 12,000 people in a frenzy at the Reitz Bowl, Barthel entered after Hughes injured his right throwing shoulder.

Welcome to the big leagues, kid.

...

With expectations always high at Cathedral -- "go to the state championship and win it," senior linebacker Kyle Kennedy said -- the opportunity is there for Barthel.

...

"It was tough to be on the sidelines," Barthel said. "I waited my turn patiently and did everything I could. Now this is my year and I'm going to do everything I can to help us win a championship."

Not trying to look ahead, but you can see what Cathedral and Barthel's goal is: to win state.

Go Panthers!

I'm far from a head coach, but I think if Hughs would have been playing wideout and Barthel would have started at qb this game might have been a little closer. Barthel was impressive last year. I bet Nick Najem dropped at least 3 wide open passes last year. Amyways..........

That's what I thought, but Cathedral fans said after the game that they had those two players where they needed to be.
