I looked at this last year also. Starting with one win at the end of the 1959 season, 9 straight in 1960 (Vincennes, New Albany and Bloomington were in the SIAC then), 7 straight in 1961, then 8 more straight before a tie with Bosse in 1962 makes that 25 straight SIAC wins and it was 16 straight city wins. This continued to 1963 for the unbeaten streak to finish at 29 in SIAC and 19 in city. From 1975-1978 we had 23 straight SIAC and 18 straight in city. Right now we are currently at 23 straight conference wins (25 if you count beating Harrison and Central in sectional games) and 20 straight city games (22 if you count the sectional wins). So we are right on (or near, however you want to count the tourney games) the mark for SIAC wins and already passed the best mark for city wins.
I'm finishing up the e-newsletter right now when I saw this. I will have it in there but thought I'd post this for everyone to see here, too:
- 26 - Tell City (1970 to 1974)
- 25 - Reitz (1959 to 1962)
- 24 - Castle (1981 to 1985)
- 23 - Reitz (2006 to present)
- 23 - Reitz (1975 to 1978)
- 21 - Mater Dei (1999 to 2002)
- 29* - from 1959 to 1963, Reitz was undefeated in 29 consecutive SIAC games, having won 28 and tied one
- 29* - from 1960 to 1964, Tell City was undefeated in 29 consecutive SIAC games, winning 27 and tying twice
These are counting conference games only. Tell City actually lost to Reitz during their 26-game streak, but the Marksmen were in the SIAC B/2A division and only games against division rivals counted.
