QUOTE (Foghorn @ Aug 26 2010, 05:05 AM)

I have noticed that several teams put there all time leading rusher, passer, receiver...etc in their programs. Is there a reason we don't? I think it would be interesting to read and im sure others woulds as well.
I agree Foghorn. I'd love to see those stats too. Unfortunately, even going through the Evansville newspapers won't provide individual stats by game. You may find (for several years when Dan Schism (sp) was the Sports Editor for the newspaper) they may have published some season summary (leader) stats. You may also find individual stats were a kid had an amazing stat which they include within the article.
For the most part, the paper published the game box score which just lists the team stats. Some 30 years ago, I spent some ungodly hours down at Central Library winding through the paper pulling out the box scores for all the Reitz games. These have subsequently been put into a database. In the Courier’s early years, they didn't publish what we know as the box score, but rather the writers would work all the team stats into the article itself. It was/is a time consuming task. There are about 7-10 years (1920's, 1930's timeframe) for which I need to finish my research.
I think across the years Reitz football has stressed the TEAM concept as opposed to any one individual. Perhaps that's a factor in why Reitz has such a winning football tradition.
In today's world, it's relatively easy to acquire stats and put them into a format which can be easily queried. I can tell you in a matter of seconds what our record is when we play on Wednesdays (0-5, and only scoring 1 TD in each game except 1 when we were shut out).
One source we may want to consider is contacting our living coaches. Who knows, they may have the stats stored in a box somewhere.
